Connecticut History
Formally known as the River Colony, Connecticut was a settlement of the Puritan Congregation in 1636. This is when the English had gained permanent control of the colony. Thomas Hooker was one of the leaders of the discovery. He was a remarkable Puritan minister. He, along with the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, John Haynes, led 100 colonist to Hartford. The two leaders are considered the founders of the Connecticut Colony.
It wasn't an easy task to settle peacefully. In 1637, the Pequot War was amidst. Connecticut colonists allied with the Narragansetts and Mohegans to fight against the Pequots. The war was won by the colonist, led by John Underhill and John Mason.
Connecticut was the 5th colony to become a state on January 9th, 1788. This led to a great path to become a great state of the New England Colonies.
The places where colonists settled is now a museum and tourist spot for educational purposes.
